And demonstrate to me, daily, the reality that if I spend time with You, things will be better.

Show me how to put aside all of the weights and sins and emotions that tangle me up. Show me how to pray when things aren’t perfect. But I also know that the only thing that makes life worthwhile is living it with You.
Circumstances will rarely be ideal I know that. I want to grow closer to You, but in practice, I’m too tired or bored or busy. I want to live out Your love, but I find myself consumed with frustration, jealousy, or worry. Instead of feeling grateful, I feel bogged down by the responsibilities of all that You’ve given me. Prince of Peace, I find myself unable to cope with life sometimes. Be glorified in my relationships, Father. I lay down my emotional weapons and choose peace. Thank you today for every good gift you’ve given, every blessing you’ve sent, all the forgiveness I did not deserve, and, yes, for every trial you’ve allowed into my life. I surrender and admit: I can’t control people, plans, or even all my circumstances, but I can yield those things to you, and focus on your goodness. I need more of you, Lord, and less of me. I may need to pray this same prayer daily, but I’m tired of the frenzy of life that leaves my schedule and my thoughts without any margin. I’m releasing the reins of my life again and asking you to take control. Most of the things I worry about or dread don’t even happen. I know that trust is a big part of experiencing peace and that fear has no place in my life. Calm my anxious spirit, Lord all the attacking “if-only’s” and “what-ifs” fill me with needless worry.
I need your peace-the deep-down-in-your-heart kind that stays with me day and night and speaks confidently into the wind. Confusion reigns and defeat creeps in to steal my joy. Other times I’m caught in an endless storm, with thoughts flying out of control. Oh Lord, sometimes my insides feel like a battle zone, where missiles are falling too close to home. Do the impossible in and through me, I pray. Help me to discern when to rest, when to feast, and how to actively engage my faith as I wait for You to breakthrough. I am determined to win this battle with anxiety.
Fill me afresh with the wonder of Your love and power. I want my whole life to testify that there’s a God in heaven who knows my name and who will get me safely home. Help me to enjoy the feast You prepare for me, right in the middle of the battlefield. Show me how to rest right in the middle of the storm. Help me to pursue healing while I wait for my miracle. Help me get into the habit of taking my “overwhelmed” and placing it under your will. Guide me to Your Word which gives me strength and refuge. Lord, when my heart is overwhelmed, overwhelm me with Your peace.
